چکیده

1. Many substances besides the specific broth filtrates of Besredka can be utilized as topical applications to protect guinea pigs from the effects of massive doses of staphylococcus given subcutaneously. (Plain broth, peptone 10 per cent, peptone 1 per cent, Liebig's meat extract, mustard plaster and normal horse serum.) 2. Where such protection occurs, no matter what the stimulus is, the local skin reaction microscopically is the same as that previously described for broth compresses. 3. Many topical applications of such substances as saline, water, plain compresses, etc., may confer slight protection on an animal. 4. Specific filtrates (Besredka) confer no protection on the experimental animal if applied at the time of inoculation or thereafter. 5. The local protection described in our experiments is non-specific in its nature.

Local Immunization of Rabbits to Cutaneous Infection with Staphylococcus Aureus

1. Bacterial filtrates were prepared by the methods described by Besredka, but these never developed any specific growth-inhibiting factors. 2. Such filtrates produced a strictly local immunity of the areas of the skin infiltrated but such protection was never greater than that produced with the broth from which they were prepared. This immunity was manifest within 8 hours and persisted at leas...

Surveying Contamination Rate of Local Lactic cheese with Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes in Gorgan in 2017

Background & Aim: Lactic cheese is traditionally produced from raw milk in some provinces of Iran. Therefore, presence of pathogenic bacteria in these cheeses can be dangerous to human health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the contamination rate of local lactic cheeses produced in Gorgan with Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus and Listeria monocytogenes. Methods: Cheese samples we...

Staphylococcus aureus infection of epidermal keratinocytes promotes expression of innate antimicrobial peptides.

Keratinocytes upregulate expression of endogenous antimicrobial peptides in response to inflammatory stimuli. We show that both viable and heat-inactivated Staphylococcus aureus and lipoteichoic acid differentially alter expression of these peptides upon contact with human keratinocytes. The findings indicate a diversity of staphylococcal factors involved in upregulation of antimicrobial peptid...

Role of neutrophil leukocytes in cutaneous infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus.

Despite the high prevalence of cutaneous infections, little is known about the role of host immune responsiveness during Staphylococcus aureus dermatitis. We have recently described a murine model of infectious dermatitis induced by superantigen-producing S. aureus. To assess the role of neutrophils in staphylococcal dermatitis, mice were given granulocyte-depleting monoclonal antibody prior to...

Regulation of T Cell Immunity in Atopic Dermatitis by Microbes: The Yin and Yang of Cutaneous Inflammation

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disease predominantly mediated by T helper cells. While numerous adaptive immune mechanisms in AD pathophysiology have been elucidated in detail, deciphering the impact of innate immunity in AD pathogenesis has made substantial progress in recent years and is currently a fast evolving field. As innate and adaptive immunity are intimately lin...
